UK Broadband Notspots Map
Type: Choropleth map with ward boundaries
Primary metric: Premises with limited broadband speeds
Layer Metrics
This visualization provides multiple layers to explore different aspects of broadband notspots:
- Premises Under 10Mbps: Number of premises with broadband speeds less than 10Mbps
- Premises Under 50Mbps: Number of premises with broadband speeds less than 50Mbps
- Premises Under 100Mbps: Number of premises with broadband speeds less than 100Mbps
- Percent Under 10Mbps: Percentage of premises with speeds less than 10Mbps
- Percent Under 50Mbps: Percentage of premises with speeds less than 50Mbps
- Percent Under 100Mbps: Percentage of premises with speeds less than 100Mbps
Understanding Notspots
Broadband notspots are areas with limited high-speed connectivity. This map identifies:
- Critical notspots (under 10Mbps): Areas unable to reliably support basic online activities
- Standard broadband limitations (under 50Mbps): Areas with inadequate speeds for multiple users
- Superfast limitations (under 100Mbps): Areas lacking access to higher bandwidth services
Map Navigation
- Use the layer control in the top right to switch between different speed thresholds
- Hover over a ward to see detailed information
- Click and drag to pan the map
- Use mouse wheel to zoom in/out
Interpretation
- Darker colors indicate higher numbers/percentages of premises affected by speed limitations
- Areas with high numbers of premises under 10Mbps represent priority intervention zones
- Consider both absolute numbers and percentages when interpreting the data
- Some areas may have few premises but high percentages affected, while others may have many premises but lower percentages
